Story

In ancient myth the Rock of Gibraltar and Jebel Musa (in Ceuta on the most northerly point of Morocco) were known as the Pillars of Hercules. The story goes that they were formed when Hercules, one of the most celebrated heroes of classical mythology, tore a mountain apart in order to get to Gades, modern Cadiz, on Spain’s southwestern coast.
