{  Morocco  }

In Morocco never be surprised. If you see a donkey flying, just say Allah is capable of anything."
 -- Moroccan proverb

Morocco is a land of geographic contrasts – landscapes of lush beauty and stark drama – and many social contradictions. It is a country with a long history and a sophisticated culture.

The beauty and variety of the landscape is a feast for the senses. Oases spring from the desert, wildflowers bloom in mountain valleys, and snow clad peaks tower above ancient cities. For beach lovers, sand, sun, and sea are available along the rocky Mediterranean coast and along the Atlantic seaboard, where fine resorts overlook glorious bays and vast stretches of golden sand. There is also much to attract the sports-minded visitor, especially golf and skiing.

Morocco is a treasure house of exotic sights and sounds. The four imperial cities are filled with ancient mosques and palaces. Local dress and costumes are colorful, and the bustling markets overflow wit handcrafted souvenirs.

In ancient myth the Rock of Gibraltar and Jebel Musa (in Ceuta on the most northerly point of Morocco) were known as the Pillars of Hercules. The story goes that they were formed when Hercules, one of the most celebrated heroes of classical mythology, tore a mountain apart in order to get to Gades, modern Cadiz, on Spain’s southwestern coast.
